Even though I didn’t strictly have music in my demos, I associated songs with each character in order to imagine their soundscape and a mood that is unique to them.

It’s with these songs in the background that I wrote the scripts until the early morning.

I was careful not to spoil too much in my analyses. However, the music is linked to the characters’ psychology, so there will inevitably be mild spoilers (and major spoilers for ???)

At your own risk ;)

Here is a quick overview: (1. click on the character’s name to access their playlist on YouTube) (2. click on the arrow to expand the associated text)

Hana
It’s a playlist that represents a perfect heroine from the outside with rather joyful, cute, and bright tracks. But she is also a character who hides her vulnerability and her true strength of character behind more rock-oriented tracks, a common point she shares with her best friend Kou. While there are similarities with Kyoko, Hana stands out with much more innocent music.
Kyoko
She is a character who hides a profound loneliness behind her joyful facade, which is why her tracks are more melancholic. Also being a protagonist, there are similarities with Hana, but Kyoko’s life experience makes her more distant, more cynical.
Tetsuya
Tetsuya’s playlist exudes a certain lightness, with tracks that recall the slightly geekier side of the character (MEGANE by Megurine Luka sums it all up in its Japanese title which translates to “glasses”).
Shinji
Shinji’s playlist has a dominant electro-pop vibe that contrasts with the other playlists. It’s extravagant, glamorous, and bordering on ridiculous at times. The instruments are less present as if to recall the superficial side of idols. But deep down, it remains very cheerful, good-natured.
Hiromi
Hiromi’s playlist contains traces of another direction I had for the character. The music is cute but not entirely. Some slightly bizarre and anxiety-inducing sounds can be found in it. I promise, the real Hiromi is much more charming and admirable! … Unless you consciously break him.
Haru
Haru’s playlist was quite focused on the fact that he is older than the rest of the cast, hence the music has a more old-school feel. Just like the character, the chosen tracks are more settled, calmer, and also more bitter. A certain melancholy transpires from this musical playlist.
Kou
Kou’s playlist has bite, spice, and passion. It’s sometimes very messy, the sound being more raw than other playlists. This reflects his personality and the complexity of his relationship with Hana. Whether you like it or not, his intensity can be a bit polarizing… a bit like his route haha. Yet, he only lacks one thing to soothe his heart.
???
Daisuke’s playlist reflects his character: a bit ethereal, melancholic, and dramatic. They are mostly soft tracks with the use of more electronic sounds that add a touch of the surreal. However, a bud of hope exists despite the sad aspect of his melodies.
